It never occurred to me that by RSVPing to a class on Facebook, I would find that RSVP posted on MY Facebook page. I admit, I'm an infrequent user of the medium, so I'm not really "with it" as far as managing the process. But there was no warning, no information, no notice that I would be posting anything to MY page. As a result, everyone on my Friend list including family, friends, clients, colleagues, alumni, etc., know I'm taking this class. That's information I had no intention of sharing, and I feel violated by the Facebook system. So, that's it. I'm not on Facebook again, ever. It's a dangerous medium, and as I indicated on the prompt asking me why I was deactivating, "I feel unsafe." I just cancelled my Facebook account because I hit an “I’m Attending” button. This is to assure you that your brain dump has helped me and probably a lot more other ubuntu enthusiasts with their attempts at unraveling the ddns update mystery :) Thanks again!
